Following a 30-plus year career as a federal auditor, I decided to write a novel about my father's experiences as a combat infantryman in WWII's Italian campaign. Based largely on many late-night, front porch discussions with him, and augmented by the accounts of other men from his unit, "Warriors of the Forgotten Front" emerged after a four year effort. I am indebted to Lauran Strait, President of Hampton Roads Writers and other members of her writing workshops who offered advice, critiques, and most of all encouragement when it seemed this project might never see the light of day.
